Doncaster College, Simulated Performing Arts Creative Environment (SPACE)

The creation of a portfolio of 3D learning environments and tools that will support the teaching of performing arts (and other courses) delivering not only an enhanced learning experience but other benefits including health and safety, widening participation, increased flexibility and cost efficiencies.
Creative and Cultural Skills, the Sector Skills Council for Creative and Cultural sectors, their network of colleges and the PALATINE HE network will act as a combined client group thereby ensuring an alignment with curriculum needs and embedding the outputs into the FE and HE sectors.

Aims and Objectives

  • To develop a portfolio of ‘open’ 3D simulation environments and/or objects to support the learning and teaching of a range of creative and cultural curriculums including performing arts.
  • To establish a commissioning process between the National Skills Academy for Creative and Cultural Skills and the Creative, Cultural Skills sector skills council, PALATINE and Doncaster College.
  • To establish robust new product design, testing and launch processes for Doncaster College for the production of elearning tools.

Anticipated outputs and outcomes
The tangible outputs from the project will include:

  • A 3D learning environment to support the teaching of Performing Arts subjects.
  • A set of processes to support the design, build and testing of 3D learning environments.
  • A Final Evaluation Report.
  • A Commissioning Brief.
  • Monthly Project Reports (to support project governance).
  • Project methodology collateral (such as workshop formats, interview guides).

Intangible assets will include:

  • Experience of supporting curriculum learning objectives within the Doncaster College 3D programming team.
  • Development of a customer-focused culture within the Doncaster College 3D programming team.
  • A culture of innovation within the Performing Arts curriculum area.
  • Experience of project work for Doncaster
