ESCalate, Open Sustainability in Education Resource (OSIER)
- Start date: 2010-09-01
- End date: 2011-08-31
- Status: complete
Re-orienting education to integrate sustainable development principles, values and practices underpins the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). Emphasis on sustainable development is now a central part of HEFCE strategy for development of the higher education (HE) sector and is becoming increasingly prominent in UK schools’ curricula.
Lecturers in initial teacher education (ITE) and continuing professional development (CPD) programmes in HE need to update their teaching programmes to respond to these changes. It is timely to develop an OER site for ESD, sharing learning materials and resources for reuse and repurposing between programmes that have integrated ESD.
Aims and Objectives
To create a collection of open education resources for education practitioners to integrate Education for Sustainable Development into their programmes, and to promote this collection to ensure its continuing use and sustained development beyond the end of the project, fostering a community and culture of sharing resources in education training.
