Briefings on Employability 5: Helping Departments to Develop Employability

  • Publication Date: 01-01-2003

This Briefing, aimed at institution departmental heads and project leaders, discusses in detail the "attributes" that will assist graduates in obtaining and retaining, and developing within, a (graduate) job.

It then encourages heads to actively persuade staff to be involved in the development of the employability of their students, focusing on the role that academics might play in helping students to be aware of and develop their attributes and to reflect on their development. Ways in which traditional academic practices, eg formative and summative assessment, can be adapted to the employability agenda are considered.
