Briefings on Employability 7: A subject community perspective on supporting the development of employability

  • Publication Date: 01-01-2003

Aimed at Higher Education Academy subject centre managers and directors, this briefing provides subject centres with generic notes on employability for customisation.

Specifically, it is for those academics who wish to think about and implement approaches that will support the students they teach in developing the skills, qualities and capabilities that will enable them to gain employment and be successful in their careers. It is in four sections: "Shared understandings of employability" which defines and discusses the nature of employability; "Enhancing employability through the subject curriculum" which looks at ways of fostering employability through different subject curricula; "What does this mean for developing practice?" which looks at approaches to teaching, learning and assessment that help students to develop the skills and achievements that employers value; and "Responding to the sceptics" which counters the arguments put by those who question the employability agenda.
