The Net Generation and Digital Natives - Implications for Higher Education

A literature review commissioned by the Higher Education Academy. The results of a study aimed to better understand how doctoral students in the social sciences, learn, experience their academic environments, and prepare for careers in academia. 

The research involved collecting data from almost 50 students in a range of social science departments across three universities. Participants completed logs on a monthly basis (some for more than a year), filled out biographic questionnaires, and a number were interviewed. This report provides a brief outline of the research findings which the team feel may be relevant for departments, divisions and the collegiate university, particularly those in the social sciences.
