University of the Arts London - Improving the degree attainment of Black and minority ethnic students
- Publication Date: 01-01-2010
UAL is well positioned to build on the success of the many projects completed or ongoing which contribute to improving retention and achievement and a positive student experience.
The core project team includes representatives from widening participation, Creative Learning in Practice CETL, Centre for Learning and Teaching in Art and Design, the Diversity Office and teaching staff. The creation of this group has already marked an achievement for this project and it is hoped that this collaboration will build on existing relationships and create a group that will continue this work past the completion of the project. The project will focus on two strands:
1) Development of online resources to support staff in curriculum design and student support through consolidation of current and recently completed activities and projects focused on retention and achievement and the BME student experience
2) Piloting and evaluation of a model of inclusive curriculum development that is based on student, staff and alumni co-creation
Both activities will be overseen by the core HEA project team with advice and input from a larger team comprised of teaching staff, students and alumni.
UAL is committed to having an impact on the experience of BME students and has undertaken many projects related to this. Improving retention and achievement is one of the pillars of the institutional strategy for student learning. The two strands of this project will build on past success and current projects to further this UAL strategic aim.
