Open Dialogue - Inclusive Policy
'Improving the student experience through embedding inclusive policy and practice' Video & Audio
Open Dialogue
On 10 September 2008, an open dialogue session took place at the one-day event in London on 'Improving the student experience through embedding inclusive policy and practice'.
The session explored the challenges to developing evidenced-informed practice and practice-informed research.
Power differences were raised between:
- Individuals accessing resources to study
- Subjects studies
- Institutions - selecting and recruiting
- Policy agendas - research vs teaching and learning.
Issues that need to be addressed to mitigate some of the power differences include:
- Research Assessment Exercise - whether institutions are going to attend to research or teaching and learning
- Culture change within institutions to enable them to meet the needs of students from other cultural backgrounds
- Knowledge and understanding of how to...the will is there with the fear of getting it wrong.
