Competition and collaboration in teaching and learning

Academics tend to be ideologically collaborative but behaviourally competitive and this aggregates up into rather unpredictable collective dynamics in the HE sector. Collaboration and competition are not mutually exclusive, of course, as cartels, business networks and coalition governments demonstrate, and it is worth reflecting on their respective roles in fostering innovation and continual improvement in teaching and learning.
