About Us

Every year we receive guidance from our funders which outlines a range of UK-wide and nation- specific priority areas where they would like the Academy to support the sector. We also gather very important information from institutions (Institutional Partnership Programme) and discipline communities on what they see as their priority areas in learning, teaching and assessment.

At the same time, the Academy is moving towards "one Academy" i.e. better integration of our work across Subject Centres, the York, Cardiff and Edinburgh offices. As one aspect of this, the Academy's Board has agreed three pan- Academy UK-wide priorities for 2009-10:

  • Quality Enhancement with particular emphasis on issues arising from the National Student Survey (including Feedback) and the External Examiners system.
  • Student Engagement.
  • Education for Sustainable Development.

These align with Scottish priorities which also include Employability and Internationalisation. It is important to note that many of these areas e.g. employability, assessment and student engagement, could all come under the Enhancement Theme banner of "Graduates for the 21st Century".
