HEA Scotland and the National Union of Students in Scotland have recently launched the Student Led Teaching Awards Project for 2010-11. The project will build on the sucessful pilot run last year to help students' associations throughout Scotland run their own awards schemes in order to show how much they appreciate staff dedication to teaching quality. An online toolkit is now available to help with planning and preparation of the awards and the HEA and NUS Scotland will be running a number of meetings throughout the year to bring students' associations together to share ideas and practice.
Thousands of students got involved last year by nominating their favourite tutors and lecturers in categories such as ‘outstanding teacher', ‘innovative teacher' and ‘teaching in an international context'. A range of awards ceremonies took place allowing students to show their appreciation, showcase best practice and help raise the status of teaching in Scotland's universities.
Scotland is fortunate to have so many excellent lecturers and these awards are a very positive way to highlight the excellent teaching which is happening across the country every day.
Thirteen institutions are taking part in the scheme this year, including the eight who took part in the pilot:
- University of Aberdeen
- University of Abertay Dundee
- University of Dundee
- University of Edinburgh
- Edinburgh Napier University
- University of Glasgow
- Glasgow Caledonian University
- Heriot-Watt University
- Robert Gordon University
- University of Stirling
- University of Strathclyde
- UHI Millenium Institute
- University of the West of Scotland
