Become a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy

The Academy’s Professional Recognition Scheme offers individuals the opportunity to gain recognition as Senior Fellow of The Higher Education Academy. This is appropriate if you have an academic role with substantial organisation and/or management commitment in Higher Education.

Senior Fellow of The Higher Education Academy recognises sustained effectiveness and academic leadership in teaching and enhancing the student learning experience, combined with scholarship, research and/or other professional activities.

It is awarded to professionals who can demonstrate that they meet the criteria of Descriptor 3 of the UK Professional Standard Framework for teaching and supporting learning in higher education.

Typically, those likely to be at Descriptor 3 (D3) include:

  1. Experienced staff able to demonstrate, impact and influence through, for example, responsibility for leading, managing or organising programmes, subjects and/or disciplinary areas
  2. Experienced subject mentors and staff who support those new to teaching
  3. Experienced staff with departmental and/or wider teaching and learning support advisory responsibilities within an institution
