Our work on eLearning in Wales continues to implement HEFCW's Enhancing learning and teaching through technology: a strategy for Higher Education in Wales. Links will be made with ePortfolio developments (through the Centre for Recording Achievement), with JISC TechDis, and an event will be run with HEFCW and JISC RSC to share practice and support embedding of technology enhanced learning.
The Academy's eLearning team continues to lead work on supporting the enhancement of learning and teaching through technology in the Welsh HE sector through the GWELLA project.
HEAT 4 Wales
The fourth round of the very successful JISC TechDis HEAT Scheme is now underway in Wales.
The HEAT Scheme gives staff in Higher Education the chance to bid for technology with which to run innovative projects to develop or uncover an aspect of good inclusive practice. Seven projects will run in Wales in this round of the scheme investigating a range of technologies, including:
- Portable recording devices, to allow students to capture audio and video to enhance their learning;
- e-Book readers, to evaluate how useful they are for students with specific learning difficulties;
- Video conferencing, to evaluate its use for training, distance learning and communication;
- Widely available games to improve entrepreneurship skills in students;
- Assistive technologies to allow visually impaired learners to undertake an Access to Music course.
The case studies from these projects will be available in summer 2011.
