The Higher Education Academy (HEA) is the national body which champions teaching quality. We provide value to the HE sector by focusing on the contribution of teaching as part of the wider student learning experience.
Our mission is to improve learning outcomes by raising the quality and status of teaching in higher education as an essential driver for student success. We offer our services, such as institutional subscriptions, student surveys, and consultancy, across the UK and internationally.
At the Higher Education Academy we work in partnership with institutions and individual educators to support and continuously improve teaching quality. At the core of our work is the UK Professional Standards Framework, which is a benchmark for standards throughout the stages of an individual’s career; and our professional recognition programme which enables institutions and individuals to continuously develop teaching quality. To date, through recognition, or accreditation, over 63,000 individual educators have become Fellows of the HEA.
We know that networks are highly valued in the sector to share best practice and thought leadership. We have established networks with groups such as Pro-Vice-Chancellors in Learning and Teaching and in discipline communities. We run events, workshops and webinars to support these networks.
We offer tools to address current issues faced by institutions and individuals. Our work is underpinned by research and resources which can be found in our Knowledge hub.
The HEA’s areas of current focus are informed by our consultation with the sector, by funding council priorities, government policy, sector data, intelligence and reports amongst others. These are:
- Retention and Attainment
- Assessment and Feedback
We look forward to working with you.
