Over 86% of delegates said attending the conference will help support them to improve learning outcomes as a result of attendance
The HEA’s series of discipline-based conferences continued with Inspiring to succeed: Transforming teaching and learning in STEM, held at the end of January, where over 86% of delegates who responded to the post-conference questionnaire said attending will help support them, and colleagues, to improve learning outcomes.
The same percentage (86.4%) would also recommend the event to colleagues, with over 90% either satisfied or very satisfied with the event.
The conference series forms part of HEA’s extensive range of opportunities to inspire, support and share excellent practice in teaching and learning across the four disciplinary clusters (Arts and Humanities, Health and Social Care, Social Sciences and STEM). The conferences offer a range of formats, from keynote presentations to 20-minute ‘how to’ sessions providing practical guidance, and provide an important networking opportunity. Academics can see and hear experts in their discipline sharing innovative practice, as well as showcase their own pedagogical ideas.
Feedback from delegates at the STEM conference indicates delegates value the opportunity to learn from the examples of best practice that are shared. The time to network with colleagues in their own discipline was particularly valuable.
Comments from the post-conference questionnaire included:
- “Fantastic session about a feedback toolkit…great, applied, robust stuff.”
- “The small workshop sessions were fantastic.”
- “There were some really interesting presentations linked to my discipline area – including engaging students with feedback, and getting students engaged with research methods.”
- “HEA events and conferences are always interesting, good development opportunities and good networking opportunities.”
