Responding to the Department for Education’s release of its response to a technical consultation on TEF year 2 and the Year 2 specification, the Higher Education Academy has welcomed government commitment to using the trial year to ensure the TEF develops iteratively while maintaining continuing active engagement with the sector and key stakeholder groups.
Commenting, HEA Chief Executive Stephanie Marshall said: “It is reassuring to see the emphasis on the contextual narrative and its components. This will reinforce the integrity of the TEF by acknowledging the diversity of the sector and the signature pedagogies of individual institutions.
“We particularly welcome recognition of the value of student engagement as a measure of recognising good teaching practice and the suggested use of UKES as evidence of teaching quality.
“We are pleased to see the intention to more sensitively benchmark graduate employment outcomes but would advocate that future metrics should also look to the wider value of higher education beyond earnings.”
