“The application process certainly galvanised our ambition of Monash becoming Australia’s standout university for teaching excellence”
Angela Carbone, Director, Education Excellence, Monash University, 2017 Award Finalist

"Times Higher Education has been at the heart of higher education for almost 50 years, and our university rankings and summit series take us around the world. We know how vital it is that great and innovative teaching is championed and recognised, which is why we are pleased to support this initiative"
John Gill, Editor, Times Higher Education

Why enter?

Entering the Global Teaching Excellence Award brings many potential benefits to your institution. As the GTEA is awarded to an institution as a whole, in recognition of institution-wide approaches to teaching excellence, only one application can be submitted per eligible HE provider.

“The Global Teaching Excellence Award application aligns with our growing international reach and ambition to secure our long-term future in the top 100 universities in the world. We wanted to signal – internally and externally – the scale and scope of our education ambition and our belief that we have much to contribute to, and even more to learn from, our global colleagues. “
Professor Sir David Eastwood, Vice-Chancellor and Principal, University of Birmingham, 2017 Award Finalist.

Gain an ADVANTAGE in the competitive global HE landscape

The award will provide you with the opportunity to raise your institution’s global profile, supporting your efforts in recruiting (and retaining) the best students and staff.

Celebrate and CONNECT with fellow leaders of teaching excellence and with your staff and students

The shortlisted institutions will be invited to a prestigious award ceremony in London. This high profile ceremony provides a platform for you to promote and celebrate your achievements and to connect with fellow institutional leaders from across the world.

Achieve worldwide sector RECOGNITION

These are the only global awards to recognise teaching excellence. That means you have the opportunity to be unique among your peers – to genuinely claim to be a world leader in institution-wide teaching excellence.

We look forward to receiving your applications for the 2018 awards.

"So much of our work is now international in its audience and relevance, and we are always eager to benchmark ourselves against the very best across the world. To be shortlisted alongside the leading institutions internationally which like us are setting the pace in teaching and learning is both an opportunity to learn from them and to showcase Huddersfield’s excellence to the world."

University of Huddersfield, 2017 Award Winner.

"We welcomed participation in the inaugural Global Teaching Excellence Award in 2017 which, unlike other global and national awards that focus on individuals and teams, recognises excellence across an entire university. The broad input required to evidence impact at an institution-wide level across three domains has afforded a unique opportunity to reinforce within Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and beyond that teaching excellence at QUT builds from a collective and cohesive institutional effort."

Queensland University of Technology, 2017 Award Finalist.

"The application process for the HEA Global Teaching Excellence Award has challenged us to clarify our vision, evaluate our teaching strategy and ensure we have a robust scorecard in place that measures the strategy implementation. For me personally, I was greatly encouraged by the process, to discover that many of the pedagogical practices we have been engaged in are what is recognized as important in higher education today."

Swiss Hotel Management School, 2017 Award Finalist.
