Frameworks & Toolkits

The HEA has published a series of strategic frameworks on the following sector priorities:

  • Transforming assessment in higher education
  • Embedding employability in higher education
  • Internationalising higher education
  • Flexible learning in higher education
  • Student access, retention, attainment and progression in higher education
  • Student engagement through partnership in higher education.

The frameworks have been created in response to, and in collaboration with, the HE sector and draw on extensive evidence, expertise and experience and can be adapted by a wide range of HE stakeholders, individuals and groups, and applied to different disciplines, modes of study and institutional contexts.

We offer a flexible and bespoke consultancy service to support you in adopting the frameworks at an institutional level and embedding them at a programme level.

The new HEA toolkits consist of a number of complementary tools and resources to support you in further raising the quality of your teaching. The toolkits provide access to information that enables you to enhance your learning and teaching practice, as well as keeping you up to speed with all the latest hot topics in HE. You’ll find practical tips and ideas, to help with innovative teaching methods and how to put them into practice, plus lots of other useful information and inspiration.

Patchwork Assessment Practice Guide

The Patchwork Assessment Practice Guide helps practitioners to develop patchwork assessment processes across a range of domains and aids subsequent implementation at institutional and practitioner levels. It should ideally be read in conjunction with the illustrative case studies and with the HEA Framework for transforming assessment in higher education (2016) upon which many of its key principles are aligned.
