Assessment has a vital impact on staff time, university reputations, league tables and, most important of all, students’ future lives. HEA can work with you to transform assessment policy and practice to enhance student success by providing new insights from staff and students on assessment practice, and developing innovative new approaches to assessment.
Higher Education Academy framework for transforming assessment
A shared point of reference for the sector
HEA framework transforming assessment in higher education is informed by more than 10 years of HEA-led and commissioned projects, scholarly research and practice. It provides a structure for your work to use assessment to enhance student success through strategic planning and change, curriculum design, identifying professional development, informing research projects, and reviewing and evidencing activities to establish impact.
“The Higher Education Academy frameworks are evidence-based and provide the higher education sector with a national reference point to enable the institution to develop its own approach according to local circumstances as well as benchmarking performance.” Universities UK (2016), p.73, Working in partnership: enabling social mobility.
A powerful diagnostic tool
An HEA assessment framework audit is an online survey tool that is simple to delivery and provides key analysis, findings and recommendations in a concise report which:
- Provides essential insight to support enhancing assessment practice within your institution, through identifying good practice, as well as gaps
- Provides evidence to support the development of business cases and the design of interventions and activities to enhance assessment practice.
The HEA’s Assessment Lab is designed to support programme directors and teams to develop sustainable, manageable and effective assessment and feedback for their programmes taking into account their own institutional and programme priorities.
“Assessment Lab creates time and space to think differently about assessment design at the programme level,” says Dr Sam Elkington, the HEA’s Academic Lead for Assessment and Feedback.
