Exploring challenges and opportunities of educating tomorrow's healthcare leaders - NET2017 Conference

Keynote

The need for effective leadership has been discussed widely and there is general consensus that all health professionals should be able and willing to lead when needed, whether this is the little 'l' leadership of initiatives or projects, or the big 'L' leadership of leading a department or organisation. However, there is less consensus on how best to equip health professionals with the required leadership skills. In this presentation, I will explore whether the traditional (and prevailing) views of leadership are helpful, offer some models based on experience and theoretical concepts for leadership development, and consider how we can best prepare tomorrow's healthcare professionals to be effective leaders, managers and followers.
