Strand 10: Education in clinical practice and practice development

Registered Nurse (RN) medication administration error is a significant cause of avoidable patient harm nationally and internationally despite policy initiatives. A systematic search of international policy and empirical literature identified important features within the existing RN medication administration error literature, namely, a lack of clarity regarding the term medication administration error, and a focus on environment factors to the neglect of person and behaviour factors. Error is however the outcome of behaviour.
