Impact of work
Andrea has presented and published work in relation to Personal Development Planning, professional reflective practice and heightening employability, inclusion of those with protected characteristics, and closing the attainment gap for those from widening participation backgrounds.
She has also been the recipient of awards for her work engaging students with voluntary organisations as well as for her student partnership work and using technology enhanced learning to advance students' digital literacy in the context of employability.
Much of her recent work has specifically focused on inclusivity both within and outwith the curriculum and to this end has been able to evidence significantly improved attainment for those students with disabilities linked to a change in assessment practices, and non-differentiated degree and graduate outcomes for sport degree alumni with widening participation characteristics.
Plans for the future
Andrea aims to positively influence educational encounters for others and to this end she serves as a Governor for Dundee Education Trust, a trustee of the Dundee Dragons Wheelchair Sports Club, a trustee of the Society for Research in Higher Education, and an editorial panel member/contributor for Diabetes Wellness News. Before becoming a Sport Scientist, Andrea was, and remains, a registered nurse teacher. She continues to produce patient publications for a Diabetes charity.
Her interests in heightening skills, competency and employability in graduates derive from her clinical nurse teaching experiences. Andrea is also a mother of one and an accomplished athlete, having represented Scotland and England at long distance running events.
