Celia joined the HEA in April 2012 with extensive experience in curriculum development, flexible learning and employer enagegement and project management. She has managed a number of multi-partner projects across HE and FE mainly working with academics, employers and professional bodies to achieve courses that meet the needs of students, universities and business. Celia works in the Business Development team at the HEA supporting a wide range of consultancy projects and working specifically on developing new projects focused on change. Celia also has responsibility for the HEA's associate network.
Celia previously worked at the North West Universities Association (NWUA) where she was Director (Skills). At NWUA she was the strategic lead for all skills and employer engagement activity for nine years with much of her work focusing around higher-level skills, widening participation and learning and teaching, with a particular focus on work-based and flexible learning. At NWUA Celia led the NW Higher Level Skills Partnership, developing employer led HE provision for those already in the workforce. The project won the Times Higher Outstanding Employer Engagement Initiative Award in November 2010.
Prior to working in the north-west, Celia worked for the East Midlands Universities Association for three years, where her interest in regional activities, and specifically the skills area of HE activity, started. Celia’s academic background is in Biochemistry and Genetics which she studied to PhD level at the University of Leeds before taking up a position as a post-doctoral researcher in Biochemistry at the University of Bath. Celia also has a PG Cert with Distinction and an MA in Developing Professional Practice in Management from Lancaster University.
