Since 2012, Jan Knauer has been manager of the project “Employability” at the University of Münster (Germany), run by its Career Services and funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The project is set up to define the concept of employability specifically for a German research university. University departments are supported in developing a strategic position on employability. At the same time, they are encouraged to integrate elements of professional orientation that tap into academic qualities and strengthen students’ ability to apply their qualifications practically
In this framework, Jan consults deans and other academic staff responsible for curricula development in their faculties. Above that, he holds workshops for students, mainly to support their professional orientation. Since 2015, he has conducted various expert missions to Egypt, Jordan, and Tunisia where he has consulted academic and administrative staff in Higher Education institutions as well as ministries for Higher Education on how to strengthen graduates’ employability.
Prior to that Jan was manager in an international youth foundation in Munich. Before he started his professional career, he studied History, Public Law and Political Sciences in Tübingen, Aix-en-Provence, and Paris and obtained a PhD in Contemporary History.
