Maureen has worked in Education for over 35 years in a variety of roles including; careers adviser, academic, trainer, consultant and manager. She was Course Director of the UCE Postgraduate Diploma in Careers Guidance and Head of the Aston University Careers and Employability Centre. In 2009 she was awarded the Chancellor’s Medal for Sustained Outstanding Service to Aston University and in 2016 was presented with the Significant Influence Award by the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS).
Maureen worked for the HEA during 2011-2015. As Academic Lead-Employability and Consultant Academic Practice she supported the implementation and dissemination of effective employability policy and practice in Higher Education across the UK and overseas. She coordinated employability related events, developed resources, conducted and supported research projects, delivered key note addresses on employability and designed and delivered staff development. She also worked with key sector bodies to enhance graduate employability.
In 2013 Maureen and her colleague, Doug Cole, developed a framework for employability; Defining and Developing Your Approach to Employability. This has been used by institutions throughout the UK and overseas to influence and support effective employability policy and practice. In 2014/15 Maureen coordinated a HEA strategic enhancement programme that supported 37 HEPs to use the framework to embed employability. In 2015 she updated the resource for the HEA into The Framework for Embedding Employability in Higher Education.
Maureen retired in August 2015 but continues to work for the HEA as a consultant supporting effective employability provision and practice.
