National Teaching Fellow 2001
Margaret is now an Independent Higher Education Consultant, specializing in Educational and Professional Development. She has a variety of consultative roles at present, including acting as the External Evaluator for one of the University of Portsmouth's CETLs: The ExPERT Centre.
When awarded her NTF in 2001, she was the Assistant Director (Teaching, Guidance and Learning Development) for The Open University in London. She has continued her association with the Open University both as a tutor and as a writer of Study skills materials.
She used her NTF prize money to create a model for producing faculty tailored and re-usable study skills websites for Open University students. As a pilot she created a fully interactive website, The Effective Use of English, using her extensive research and practice in developing Academic English for non-traditional students.
She has also, together with two other NTF colleagues from the 2001 cohort, undertaken research and published on the experience of being a National Teaching Fellow.
