Professor Er Meng Hwa has been with Nanyang Technological University (NTU) for 33 years and has held several key appointments, including; founding Director of the Centre for Signal Processing (CSP), Dean of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Dean of Engineering, Deputy President and Senior Associate Provost.
He served as the Secretary General of the Global Alliance of Technological Universities (GlobalTech) from 2011 to 2015. The Alliance, with 10 top technological universities from the USA, Europe and Asia, aims to boost academic exchanges and leverage technology to meet global challenges.
Under his distinctive leadership and guidance, the University’s global education and mobility programmes have expanded to over 350 universities from 45 countries. The participation rate of the NTU’s graduating cohort in these overseas immersion programmes is 75%.
As the Senior Associate Provost from 2008 to 2011, he was instrumental in undergraduate educational reform in NTU and was the chief architect of NTU’s new curriculum that puts learning within and beyond the curriculum at its core. With a far-reaching impact, it aims to produce quality graduates who are disciplined, creative, innovative team players and ethical leaders, enabling them to contribute significantly to the future of Singapore, Asia and beyond.
