Learning outcomes

At the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • Design and deliver high fidelity simulation sessions including effective de-brief;
  • Match the appropriate scaffolding/support to student performance;
  • Effectively give feedback to create discrepancy amongst students and thereby foster performance improvement;
  • Design scenarios to meet specific learning outcomes.

Course content

This course utilises a practical hands-on approach to developing the knowledge and skills of participants. Using a mixture of taught content and workshop material, participants will explore issues around the effective design and delivery of mannequin-based simulation. Later in the day facilitation styles can be practiced and analysed during the running of actual simulation sessions with other participants playing the roles of the students.

The workshop is a mixture of brief taught sessions and practical hands on application. It will involve working in small groups with an experienced facilitator to practice their facilitation skills. Participants will be provided with example scenarios, outline pre- and de-brief models and other learning materials designed to enhance the students experience of simulation.
